As good as it gets… The ripe and rolling perfection of the Kentish countryside. Leeds Castle. “Standing on its twin islands in the river Len, [it] rises romantically above the reed-fringed waters of its moat-lake.” It’s a fairy-tale setting – no wonder it’s “the loveliest castle in the world.” And Rochester: castra, Cantiaci, cathedral, castle, close, cloisters, keep, cockpit of English history. Let alone ancient England on the Medway and Charles Dickens’ old home town and the parade and gala goings on of the Chimney Sweeps Festival and Merry Month of May celebrations. You got it. Timing is everything.
We go to Leeds Castle & Rochester on Festival Day: Monday, May 1. Meet Simon at 8.45 am National Rail ticket office (opposite Starbucks) of St. Pancras Railway Station. The Tariff is £49. For the total cost of the trip just add the Tariff to the guide’s fee.*
*The guide’s fee for a Day Trip is £18 for adults. Or £16 for Super Adults (over 65s) and students. Or £14 for people with the London Walks Discount Card. Kids under 15 accompanied by their parent(s) go free.
